Tom Pitman is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Indianapolis, Indiana office, where he is a member of the firm's Governmental Services & Finance Department. He concentrates his practice in public finance and municipal law, and has more than 20 years of experience serving as bond counsel, special tax counsel and underwriter's counsel. He represents clients in a wide range of tax-exempt and taxable bond issues of governmental entities, including tax increment, utility, healthcare and private university financings; revenue and general obligation bonds; and financings on behalf of school corporations. Mr. Pitman has authored numerous articles in the areas of bond financing, redevelopment and municipal law, and has been a panelist at various municipal law, healthcare and healthcare finance-related conferences since 1989. He is also a frequent speaker and panelist at educational seminars, including recent events sponsored by the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Mr. Pitman received his J.D. in 1984 from Harvard Law School. In 1981, he earned his B.A. summa cum laude from Yale University, where he was awarded the Warren Memorial High School Scholarship Prize and was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Pitman is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers; the Indianapolis, Indiana State and American Bar Associations; the Indiana Municipal and American Health Lawyers Associations; and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
