As an associate in the Health Care Department, Thomas focuses his practice on defending physicians and health care practitioners in medical malpractice litigation. Throughout his more than 25-year career, Thomas has tried many jury trials, including a number of medical malpractice matters and numerous bench trials and arbitrations throughout western Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining the firm, Thomas was a solo practitioner, representing both defendants and plaintiffs in civil litigation matters including civil rights, police excessive force, workers' compensation, personal injury, bad faith insurance practice, product liability and bankruptcy.
Thomas is experienced in litigating cases in the state and federal court systems, from the trial level through the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a Certified Civil Mediator listed with United States District Court. He also provides pro bono counsel in protection from abuse petitions through Neighborhood Legal Service and the Allegheny County Bar Association.
Early in his legal career, Thomas served as insurance staff counsel, where he represented individual insureds, businesses and governmental units regarding governmental immunity, product liability, constitutional tort, personal injury, construction, workers' compensation and bankruptcy issues. He is also a former Special Agent with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, where he was involved in various smuggling and money laundering investigations and was a lead criminal investigator on a multi-agency task force that investigated and successfully prosecuted major corporate-structured narcotic organizations in Detroit, Michigan.
Thomas is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and Pennsylvania Bar Association.
