Thomas Dawson advises a variety of US and non-US insurance clients on regulatory, licensing and corporate matters. He has advised non-US re-insurers in Europe, Bermuda and in Asia for more than 25 years. Mr. Dawson was resident in the firm's London office during the years 1983-85 and 1991-93. He has helped clients form as well as acquire and invest in US reinsurers and intermediaries. He has also advised non-insurance clients on insurance-related matters involving marketing, intermediary licensing and Web site design. In addition to working with service contract issuers of all types (e.g., manufacturers, retailers, third parties), he has worked with developers and distributors of legal expense plans, automobile clubs, mass marketing specialists, charge and credit card issuers, and similar entities. Mr. Dawson has advised numerous clients on e-commerce issues. He and his colleagues provide e-commerce counsel to re-insurance clients, most recently on privacy, security and document-retention matters. Representative Matters · Advising many of the non-US insurers that are eligible or approved surplus lines insurers in the US; · Heading the team that provides legislation, regulatory, tax and trade advice to the International Underwriting Association of London (IUA), the leading trade association for international insurers and reinsurers; · Advising numerous issuers of vehicle, watercraft, cell phone and consumer electronics service contracts on regulatory compliance, and corporate structuring matters; · Organizing the creation of a 50-state online "query database" of service contract/extended warranty laws, regulations and published regulatory guidance; · Organizing the creation and overseeing the constant updating of a 50-state online database of non-admitted insurance laws and regulations; and · Advising leading insurers and brokers on e-commerce matters. |
