Tom Panoff focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation involving antitrust, merger and acquisition, mortgage lending/securitization and other high-stakes commercial matters. He practices before trial and appellate courts around the country as well as before regulatory agencies. Tom also frequently counsels clients in antitrust, corporate governance and regulatory matters.
Tom's antitrust practice includes criminal antitrust investigations before the Department of Justice and foreign competition authorities and civil lawsuits involving alleged price fixing, market allocation, attempted monopolization and tying. In merger and acquisition litigation, Tom represents corporate clients defending lawsuits brought by shareholders and stakeholders attempting to challenge transactions. Tom's mortgage lending practice focuses on representing mortgage lenders, investment banks and securitization trusts in multi-defendant lawsuits and investigations. In recent years, his mortgage litigation practice has centered on defending various challenges in courts around the country to the Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems (MERS), including conspiracy, RICO, fraud, corporate veil piercing and qui tam cases.
Tom joined Mayer Brown after serving as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert P. Young, Jr. of the Michigan Supreme Court (2004-05) and earning an LLM in UK and EU commercial law from the University of Cambridge (2005-06).
