Tracey K. Merwise is a Principal in the San Francisco, California, office of Jackson Lewis P.C.
Ms. Merwise provides clients with strategic litigation defense as well as advice and counsel. She is a Certified Mediator and a Certified Workplace Conflict Mediator and assists companies in de-escalating workplace disputes and handling performance management, employee leaves and reasonable accommodation issues to help minimize the likelihood of litigation. In addition, Ms. Merwise conducts workplace investigations and workplace trainings.
Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Ms. Merwise was a Partner and Co-Chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Severson & Werson, APC, served as Senior In-House Counsel in the Employment Department at SBC Communications, Inc. (now AT&T), and was an Associate at the law firms of Heller Ehrman and Seyfarth Shaw.
She is a frequent speaker before business and employer associations, including Financial Executives International (“FEI”), the Financial Women's Association of San Francisco, the San Francisco Chapter of the American Society for Women Accountants (“ASWA”), and clients of insurance brokers including Woodruff Sawyer, Hays Company, and CCI Financial & Insurance Services. Ms. Merwise frequently speaks to employers about how to avoid some of the most common employment-law mistakes, how to conduct lawful and effective reductions-in-force, and how to handle leave and reasonable accommodation issues.
Ms. Merwise has authored and co-authored articles on important legal decisions in the areas of wage and hour law, employer monitoring of employees' use of electronic media, and city, state and federal legislation issues.
Following law school, Ms. Merwise clerked for the Honorable John W. Bissell, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
