Professional Experience Mr. Aguilar specializes in commercial real estate transactions, with emphasis in the representation of private and institutional real estate investors and lenders, such as: pension funds, real estate investment trusts, investment banks, opportunity funds, insurance companies and investment advisors. Mr. Aguilar focuses on the areas of equity investments, joint venture formations, acquisitions and dispositions, acquisitions of debt instruments, real-estate secured and mezzanine financing, as well as sale-leaseback and other structured finance transactions. In addition, he has extensive experience in office, retail and industrial leasing transactions. Prior to joining Manatt, Mr. Aguilar practiced as a real estate attorney with two other nationally-renowned law firms. In his prior career as a biochemist, Mr. Aguilar co-authored several articles in enzyme kinetics and protein biochemistry that were published in peer-reviewed scientific journals between 1987 and 1993. He also co-designed and developed two FDA-approved medical tests for the detection of autoimmune thyroid diseases.
