Biography

Valentine A. Brown has practiced immigration law exclusively since 1995, focusing on the representation of multinational and domestic corporations, their employees and private individuals in business immigration matters before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the U.S. Department of Labor and at U.S. Consulates. She also represents companies and individuals in immigration-related administrative and federal court litigation, including defense of enforcement actions, removal proceedings and federal court review of agency actions. In addition, she represents individuals in family-based immigrant visa petitions and political asylum proceedings and provides consultation and outreach services to community and foreign student organizations.

Ms. Brown is a regular presenter at American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) conferences and speaks often to civic and business groups.

Ms. Brown is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and a graduate of the University of Delaware. She is fluent in Spanish.

· Counsel to university for all immigration matters including H-1B and TN visas, labor certifications and green cards; complex and difficult issues successfully resolved.

· Counsel to multinational information technology company for all immigration matters including L-1 transfer of foreign nationals, H-1B, E-treaty visa and permanent residence and complex immigration issues.

· Counsel to nationwide retailer for all immigration matters including H-1B visas, labor certifications and green cards, multistate employment and recruitment issues successfully handled.

· Counsel to a company in an I-9 audit by the Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance; advised on self-audit procedures to avoid liability.

· Counsel to nationwide manufacturer considering voluntary participation in E-Verify; provided cost benefit analysis and advice on elements of compliance plan.

· Counsel to foreign physician in obtaining O-1 visa for employment in the United States prior to approval of J-1 waiver and H-1B visa.

· Counsel to asylum seeker during appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; reopened default judgment and obtained remand to the Board of Immigration Appeals.

· Counsel to Buddhist Temple for all immigration matters including R-1 Religious Worker visas, Special Immigrant Visa Petitions and permanent residence.

· Counsel to U.S. citizen and spouse in visa and unlawful presence waiver applications at U.S. consulate abroad; difficult evidentiary and discretionary issues resolved successfully.
