Practice/Industry Group Overview

The Personal Injury and Wrongful Death Practice Group represents seriously injured persons in a range of cases involving automobile and tractor-trailer accidents, medical malpractice, boating and maritime accidents, product liability, railroad liability, and slip and fall accidents. Our attorneys have recovered compensation for our clients in hundreds of cases, with many of the verdicts and settlements in the millions of dollars. Our team of attorneys — including two who, since 1995, have been included in the publication The Best Lawyers in America, one who, in 2003, was selected as "Legal Elite" by Business North Carolina, and two, who since 2006, have been recognized in "Super Lawyers" by North Carolina Super Lawyers — has substantial experience in these areas.

Our attorneys represent individuals who have received serious personal injury and families who have lost loved ones (wrongful death) in all types of accidents. Examples of the types of accidents we frequently handle are car, truck, and motorcycle accidents; tractor-trailer accidents; railroad crossing collisions; and aviation accidents.

Our attorneys also represent clients who are injured and the families who have lost loved ones as a result of medical malpractice caused by the negligence or fault of doctors, nurses, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other health care providers. Types of cases we have successfully prosecuted include children suffering brain damage during birth or nerve damage from trauma during birth; infants injured in neonatal care units and children injured in other areas of hospitals; women with advanced breast cancer as a result of misdiagnoses by radiologists in reading mammograms or as a result of substandard care by surgeons and other doctors; adults and children with catastrophic brain injuries or death from anesthesia mishaps; spinal cord injuries and other nerve damage related to care by neurosurgeons; death or serious injury caused by failure to diagnose and properly treat illnesses and infections; injuries from improper prenatal care; failure of doctors in emergency rooms and elsewhere to diagnose an impending heart attack or stroke; and other cases related to angioplasty, prescription of drugs, pathology, radiology, emergency medicine, orthopedics, and internal medicine.

We handle personal injury and wrongful death cases arising out of boating and maritime accidents occurring on the ocean and on North Carolina rivers, sounds, and creeks. These types of cases, also called admiralty cases, require a special knowledge and experience in admiralty law.
