About this office:

Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP provides advice and representation specifically tailored to address clients' legal, regulatory, and business strategies. To this end, we combine the services, capabilities, standards, and expertise of a large-firm practice with the value, flexibility, and client-oriented personal style that only a smaller firm can deliver - an approach to legal representation that has proven highly effective and cost-efficient for our clients for over 50 years. Based on interviews with our clients and peers, U.S. News - Best Lawyers named our firm the "Law Firm of the Year" in the Communications Law category for 2014. We also received this unique honor in 2011-2012. Additionally, our firm is ranked in the first tier in Chambers USA (Telecom, Broadcast and Satellite) and Legal 500 US (Telecoms and broadcast: regulatory).

With over 50 attorneys maintaining a tradition of excellence in offices in Washington, D.C., and Denver, Colorado, we help clients develop and implement their business and regulatory strategies by providing counsel on policy matters, regulatory compliance, corporate transactions, and litigation across a number of practice areas, including:

· Administrative & Court Litigation

· Broadband & IP-Enabled Services

· Communications and Video Accessibility

· Corporate & Commercial Transactions

· Energy Regulation

· Enforcement

· FTC & Consumer Protection

· International & Satellite Communications

· Media Content & Distribution

· Network & Consumer Equipment

· Privacy, Data Protection & Cybersecurity

· Smart Grid

· State Regulation

· Tower Siting & Infrastructure

· Wired Communications

· Wireless Communications

With one of the largest communications practices in the country, the firm takes advantage of the diverse experience of its attorneys. Many partners in the firm have held senior positions at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and in state government, while others draw on prior positions as in-house counsel to better serve our clients. In addition, several of our former attorneys currently work in senior policy positions at the FCC and elsewhere in government.

Communications technology and business models are continually evolving, and as services converge and overlap, the underpinnings of the traditional legal and policy distinctions within communications regulation are being transformed. At the same time, new developments in communications technology have extended its application to other fields, such as energy and health care, and have raised novel issues in the areas of privacy and consumer protection. These developments pose ongoing challenges and new opportunities for companies across a wide spectrum of industries. Against this shifting legal and regulatory framework, Wilkinson Barker works actively with its clients to ensure that their interests are protected and advanced.

Our clients range from the largest communications and technology companies in the world to small start-ups. They include mobile and fixed wireless network operators, local exchange and interexchange companies, broadcasters, cable television operators, utility companies, broadband technology and networking companies, satellite and international operators, information service providers, equipment manufacturers and retailers, software application developers, infrastructure owners, and trade associations. We represent clients before the FCC and the federal courts, as well as Executive Branch agencies, such as NTIA, FTC and the Rural Utilities Service, state agencies and the International Telecommunication Union, among others. The firm also is at the cutting edge of the legal issues surrounding the deployment of "smart grid" technologies by utility companies.

Cited as a "top-of-the-line telecom firm, with a fabulous, diverse group of attorneys who possess the highest level of knowledge in this area," the firm is "commended as expert in FCC regulatory matters and responsive to clients' needs."
