| Biography | William Silverman is a partner in the Customs and Trade practice. For over 30 years Bill has represented clients in international trade matters including antidumping, countervailing duties, Safeguards, General System of Preferences, and customs compliance and enforcement for a broad range of industrial, consumer and agricultural products. His work includes matters before the U.S. International Trade Commission, Department of Commerce, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, U.S. Customs & Border Protection, U.S. Court of International Trade, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and NAFTA panels. Bill has been retained by foreign manufacturers, importers and domestic manufacturers to promote or reduce imports. He has conducted "preventive check-ups" to assure compliance with U.S. trade laws and to uncover unfair practices. In addition, Bill has litigated trade remedy cases in India, Indonesia and Canada. At the initiation of trade associations and foreign governments, he has given speeches on U.S. trade laws in numerous countries, including Canada, Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, India, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. In General. He received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1969 and his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1966. Prior to private practice, Bill was assistant professor in the Center for Urban Studies and the College of Education at the University of Illinois in Chicago. |
