Our Washington office handles class actions, construction, corporate, employee benefits, commercial disputes, international arbitrations, insurance and reinsurance disputes and coverage, catastrophic injury claims, environmental law, general liability, premises security, professional liability, labor and employment matters, torts and product liability.
In the areas of medical malpractice and professional liability, our attorneys have been recognized as among the finest litigators in the region. Their clients include doctors, hospitals, health care providers and managed care organizations. The professional liability attorneys represent some of the nation's most distinguished legal and accounting firms. The range of representation also extends to stock brokers, appraisers and real estate agents.
We advise clients in a wide range of employment and labor issues and assist in the drafting of employer policies and procedures. Appearing before district, state and federal agencies and courts, our attorneys work closely with our clients on matters involving employment discrimination and ERISA claims, from individual claims to large class actions. Our employment team has a wealth of experience, having represented clients in hundreds of cases in state and federal courts and negotiations before human rights agencies and the EEOC. The team includes a former appellate attorney with the Office of General Counsel of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the co-author of a legal text on the Family Medical Leave Act.
Our product liability and toxic tort team includes attorneys with litigation experience on both the local and national levels. They defend a variety of manufacturers and products, including automotive goods, electrical appliances, medical devices and pharmaceuticals, industrial machinery, as well as marine, watercraft, rail and transportation equipment. Most of these cases involve high exposure, property damage or catastrophic injury. We are experienced in class action product liability litigation and in representing clients on regulatory issues involving the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and other agencies.
Our representation in the area of insurance and reinsurance coverage ranges from the arbitration of claims by retrocessionaires in the collapse of a major offshore reinsurer, to the defense of significant environmental and asbestos coverage claims. Our Washington presence enhances a practice that is national and international in character. Our international experience extends to claims before international administrative tribunals, licensing agreements, political risk analysis and protection, drafting contracts and interpreting the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Our attorneys have successfully defended a major international hotel chain from liability for a terrorist attack in the Middle East and defended cases in international arbitrations in Bermuda and France, as well as prosecuting claims before the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal at The Hague.
