Key Learnings From Past Forums
Best Practices: On-Boarding the Board from the May 1, 2008 session in New York City. In the post-Sarbanes-Oxley era, many companies are increasing the independence and efficacy of their boards by bringing in "fresh blood". While new directors add needed expertise and perspective, they may have little or no experience in how to function effectively as a board member. Training is critical to helping these board members understand the company's business and hastening their ability to add value on a long- and short-term basis... Read more.
Overview
Counsel to Counsel forums offer participants the opportunity to share business experiences and professional insights "off-the-record," in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Together, participants examine best practices for navigating the complex issues facing in-house counsel today.
In each workshop-type discussion, 12 to 18 senior corporate counsel engage in a high-level dialogue about innovative ways to manage a corporate legal department. Up to six partners from co-hosting law firms also participate, all lead by two corporate counsel co-chairs and a professional facilitator.
In addition, a cocktail/coffee break during the discussion facilitates social interaction among the participants.
Through this unique format, both in-house counsel and law firm participants benefit from an open, dynamic and multifaceted discourse.

A Proven Resource
Since 2000, Martindale-Hubbell has developed over 100 Counsel to Counsel (C2C) forums around the globe. Senior corporate counsel from the world's most respected enterprises — including American Express, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company and Sony — have emerged from their Counsel to Counsel forums equipped with new practices and perspectives in legal department management.
A Meeting of Equals
There's no more efficient way to gain a fresh perspective on the legal issues that impact your corporation's success than to leave your office behind and exchange ideas and information with the best of your peers.
C2C forums are organized to provide the highest value for your time. They are not panel discussions, nor are they venues for a sole presenter. Rather, each is an opportunity for a select group of legal professionals to roll up their sleeves and candidly share business experiences and professional insights. Some of the elements that contribute to the uniqueness of the Counsel to Counsel experience include:
- C2C forums are professionally moderated to ensure that the conversation remains focused and to the point. The facilitator is joined by corporate counsel co-chairs with extensive experience on the topic.
- C2C forums are free and are for the exclusive benefit of corporate counsel. You may receive up to 3.5 CLE credits for attending.
- C2C forums provide a wide variety of perspectives. Each participant brings a best practice or case study to the forum for exploration or reflects on a lesson learned.
- C2C forums can help you build your professional network. The session includes a cocktail/coffee break to allow you to further connect with your colleagues.
