The term "rink rage" is usually associated with the incident that occurred in July, 2000, when Thomas Junta beat another father to death, in front of their children, at a youth ice hockey practice. Insurance claims professionals and defense attorneys working with youth sports leagues have long been aware of claims involving altercations between parents, spectators, coaches and youth league players. Injured claimants have turned to the tort system for compensation on a case-by-case basis, but the courts are not well equipped to deal with the root causes of "rink rage" behavior.
