On Friday May 4, 2007, the Working Group III of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its Report entitled "Mitigation of Climate Change." Proposing far-reaching mitigation measures aimed at rapidly stabilizing climate change, the controversial Report is sure to be used in efforts to influence legislative and regulatory efforts globally and to impact policy makers in the United States. The Report models a "carbon cost" estimated to reach $100 per ton by 2030; and with estimated macro-economic costs of up to 3% of global GDP by that year, global economic impacts have the potential to be significant. Energy Supply, Transportation, Buildings, Industry, Agriculture, Forestry, and Waste - which the Report identified as "key sectors" with the ability to provide mitigation technologies and practices - would be disproportionately impacted under the Report's proposals.
