On 25 February 2008, Ofgem, Great Britain's energy regulator, fined National Grid, the UK natural gas distributor, £41.6 million for a serious abuse of market dominance: restricting the development of competition in the domestic gas meter market by imposing long-term meter supply and maintenance contracts on domestic gas suppliers.
