New Jersey Needs Legislation before Imposing Hefty New Emissions Fee on Northern New Jersey Major Facilities

In this failing economy, some major facilities in New Jersey and eight other areas of the United States may be required to pay a significant annual "emissions fee" until the area complies with the out-dated one-hour ozone limit. Major sources in 12 counties, mostly in northern New Jersey, will be affected. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) recently acknowledged that a major obstacle to collecting these "fees" in New Jersey is the need for legislative authority.
