Fiscal Year 2013 Diversity Visa (DV) lottery entrants could get a second chance at being selected for the 2013 lottery. The State Department has announced that it may conduct a second drawing for the FY 2013 lottery on October 22, 2012, at noon EDT. The State Department chooses lottery winners by random computer selection. If a second drawing occurs as planned on October 22, results will be made available on the official DV lottery entry status website. The State Department advises DV 2013 entrants who were not selected on the initial drawing date of May 1, 2012 to retain their registration number until at least September 2013. Entrants may check the lottery results by visiting the status website and entering the confirmation number of their entry, along with their last name or date of birth and a randomly generated authentication code. If an entrant is selected, the website will generate an online letter that will tell the winner how to proceed with an application for permanent residence during the 2013 fiscal year. If an entrant is not chosen, the status check website will state that fact. The official website is the only legitimate source of information about lottery results. The State Department does not notify entrants by letter, e-mail, fax or telephone. The State Department is not accepting new entrants for the 2013 DV lottery. Only entrants who properly registered between October 4, 2011 and November 5, 2011 would be included in the second drawing. As a reminder, the State Department is currently accepting registrations for the FY 2014 DV lottery. Foreign nationals have until November 3, 2012 at noon EDT to submit their entries.
