An important issue has been raised regarding whether FBARs relating to the 2008 calendar year must be mailed by June 30 or received by the Treasury Department by June 30.
The answer is that this form MUST BE RECEIVED by the Treasury Department by June 30.
If you plan to send the FBAR form by regular mail, you should mail it today. We would strongly suggest this be done via Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested.
The mailing address is:
U.S. Department of the Treasury Post Office Box 32621 Detroit, MI 48232-0621
If you plan to send the FBAR form on Monday, note that because the mailing address is a Post Office Box, the only overnight delivery service that can be used is the U.S. Postal Service.
