The Texas BON published an adopted rule in the November 14, 2008, issue of the Texas Register (33 Tex. Reg. 9237) concerning advance practice nurses. The adopted rule was first published in the August 8, 2008, issue (33 Tex. Reg. 6305).

The adopted rule eliminates provisional authorization for new graduates to practice nursing in an advanced practice role. The BON stated that the concept of provisional authorization was confusing. The adopted rule allows for an interim approval period of up to 120 days, and extensions or renewals are not allowed. In addition, language has been modified to refer to authorization to practice as licensure rather than referring to advanced practice approval as an authorization linked to registered nurse licensure.
