On October 27, 2009, in remarks before the Annual Meeting of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), FINRA chief Richard Ketchum addressed the "new regulatory challenges" raised by online social networking sites. Social networking sites include such communication channels as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Mr. Ketchum stated that FINRA's efforts to address these challenges include the creation of a Social Networking Task Force, consisting of industry participants, that will "explore how regulation can embrace technological advancements in ways that improve the flow of information between firms and their customers-without compromising investor protection."
