On February 19, 2004, Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell signed into law the Uniform Trade Secrets Act (UTSA), which will provide the courts with more specific legal standards to improve trade secret protection for Pennsylvania employers. The loss of confidential information and trade secrets to a competitor can cause severe damage to almost all businesses. Employers need to take several steps to benefit from the protection afforded by the statute and to protect themselves from claims of trade secret theft by competitors.
