Virginia Child Protection Law Struck Down |

Following a growing line of cases restricting American legislatures' paternalistic attempts to regulate speech on the Internet, a federal court last week found that the Virginia law restricting distribution of sexually explicit material to children violated several provisions of the United States Constitution. The Court held that the Virginia law may continue to be enforced with regard to printed materials, but its enforcement on electronic materials distributed online was overbroad and violated the Commerce Clause.
