Maryland Stepping up Efforts Targeting Worker Misclassification

Last month, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley issued an executive order stepping up Maryland's efforts to target companies that improperly classify their workers as independent contractors rather than employees. The order creates a task force to coordinate the enforcement of worker misclassification between the state's agencies, and requires the task force to report to Maryland's governor on December 31 of each year with proposals to further enhance the state's investigation, enforcement and prevention of worker misclassification.
