On September 18, 2007, a group of
state pension plans and institutional
investors, who together control $1.5
trillion in assets, joined environmental
groups to petition the SEC to
promulgate a rule that forces
companies to disclose a greater
range of climate change-related
risks. To that end, the group --
organized by Ceres, a coalition of
environmentalists and investors --
asked the SEC to issue an opinion
letter explicitly requiring disclosure of
climate change-related risks as part
of the mandatory disclosures under
Section 13 of the Securities and
Exchange Act of 1934 (the
"Exchange Act"), 15 U.S.C. ยง 78m.
