New California Law Requires Companies to Notify Customers of Computer Security Breaches

Beginning July 1, 2003, companies that conduct business in California and maintain computerized customer data will need to notify their customers of computer security breaches. Companies will be required to provide notice to California residents whose unencrypted personal information was acquired (or is believed to have been acquired) by an unauthorized person.
