Tennessee has adopted a new set of laws governing trusts known as the Tennessee Uniform Trust Code. These laws are primarily based on the Uniform Trust Code, which is the first national codification of the law of trusts. The Uniform Trust Code has already been enacted in Washington, D.C., and seven other states and is expected to be adopted in numerous other states. Tennessee currently has a few statutes governing trusts, most of which will be replaced by the new Trust Code. Most of the Trust Code fills in substantial gaps in our current statutory law.
