Pennsylvania's Leaders for Justice Institute Awarded LexisNexis® Martindale-Hubbell® Legal FellowshipNew York, May 20, 2009 - LexisNexis has announced that it has awarded the LexisNexis® Martindale-Hubbell® Legal Fellowship to the Leaders for Justice Institute. Established in 1992, the institute is part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Program within the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network (PLAN). The organization promotes cultural and ethnic diversity in legal services and, to honor Dr. King, Jr., offers summer internships for first and second year law students.
"We are absolutely delighted and honored that Martindale-Hubbell has awarded this grant to the PA Legal Aid Network, Inc. to establish the Leaders for Justice Institute," said Sam Milkes, executive director of PLAN, Inc. "We are very proud of the success of the Martin Luther King Program - a number of our former interns have assumed leadership positions within the legal community. We are looking forward to expanding the program, which this award will allow is to do."
Leaders for Justice will use the award funds to assist with its Annual Leadership Development Conference, its Legal Education Awareness Forums and its annual Recognition and Awards Ceremony which highlight the achievements of participating youth and summer interns.
The LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell Legal Fellowship is a unique grant program that promotes education, the practice of public interest law and diversity in the legal profession. There is one $15,000 award grant each year to individuals or organizations whose applications are selected by the company's Legal Fellowship committee.
Funding for the Legal Fellowship is generated by sales from the Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™ Acknowledgements program.
