Fordham Law School, founded in 1905, offers the Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree to approximately 1,500 students in its day and evening divisions. Approximately 200 law students live in school housing at the Lincoln Center campus. Housing preference is given to first‑year students. Over 300 American and foreign colleges are represented in the student body. The faculty is composed of approximately 73 full‑time professors and over 200 adjunct professors. The adjunct faculty is drawn from leading jurists, practicing attorneys, and government officials.

 

The Law School also offers the Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in four areas: Banking, Corporate and Finance Law, International Business and Trade Law, International Law and Justice, and Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law. In addition, it offers the joint Doctor of Law/Master of Business Administration degree in conjunction with the Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration, the joint Doctor of Law/Master of Social Work degree in conjunction with the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Work and the joint Doctor of Law/Master of Arts degree in conjunction with the Fordham University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

 

The course of study for the degree of Doctor of Law (J.D.) covers three academic years in the day division and four academic years in the evening division. The Master of Laws degrees can be obtained either on a full or part‑time basis.

 

Fordham Law School is a member of the Association of American Law Schools and is approved by the American Bar Association. Its degree is recognized in every jurisdiction of the United States, and its graduates are eligible to sit for all state bar examinations provided residency and filing requirements are met. The Law School is a chapter of The Order of the Coif.

 

Admission standards at Fordham Law School are among the most competitive in the United States, and this year received approximately 7,000 applications for the 480 seats available in the fall entering class. This highly selective process is reflected in the student body which is comprised of individuals representing a wide range of interests, skills, abilities, and accomplishments.

 

Instruction at Fordham Law School is given by a full‑time faculty of distinguished scholars and a part‑time specialized faculty. First year classes are sectioned so that each student has one class in a major subject with an enrollment of about 40. Most first year classes are under 80 students. Legal writing is taught in groups of about 12‑20 students.

 

The Law School is located in the heart of New York City. It is next door to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. It is also minutes away from the world's leading legal and financial centers. New York's Central Park lies two blocks to the east. This fortunate location affords Fordham law students an opportunity for personal and professional growth which is rare in American legal education.
