ABA Approved Since 1998

Chapman University is a 146‑year‑old, independent institution of liberal arts and professional training dedicated to providing a solid foundation of knowledge that enables its graduates to become fully educated members of society. Chapman University announced the establishment of a new law school in September 1994. In 1999, a permanent new state‑of‑the‑art four‑story law school building was completed. Chapman University School of Law was granted full approval by the ABA in August 2002. The Association of American Law Schools granted approval in January 2006.

The law school student body numbers approximately 550 with a recent entering class of 192 for the fall 2007 term. The School of Law has 64 faculty members, 42 percent of whom are women.

The Rinker Law Library contains more than 289,000 volumes and equivalents. This modern three‑story facility features seating for over 300 users, wireless Internet access, a large microfiche collection, and 10 study rooms. The law school also has two electronic classrooms and a computer lab offering law students convenient access to research databases. The library is open over 100 hours per week.

Admission to the law school is gained by committee approval, based on the applicant's credentials. The LSAT and GPA are important factors in the admissions process, other considerations are: professional experience, volunteer and community service, letters of recommendation, special circumstances, honors, economic hardship, trend of grades, completion of graduate level work, previous attendance at another law school and a record of integrity and law compliance.
