On June 28, 2001, the United States Supreme Court issued its most recent decision on how far State programs for wetlands protection can go in limiting a landowner's use of property before such limitations become a "taking" of property for which compensation must be paid pursuant to the 5th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
