  • Farmworkers in America had a great champion in Cesar Chavez, a man who worked tirelessly but peacefully to gain rights for migrant farm help in America. Both states where Waters Kraus & Paul represent clients, California and Texas, formally recognize the civil rights activist on Cesar Chavez Day, March 31. We honor the labor leader’s life and work. While his primary goal during his time was to gain fair treatment and increase wages for farmworkers, we can’t help wonder what he would do with the growing concern of birth defects caused by pesticides farmworkers face today.

The union Cesar Chavez created with Dolores Huerta, now called United Farm Workers {http://ufw.sollink.net/}, continues to advocate by non-violent methods for Farm Worker rights. This year, they are hosting a series of marches on Cesar Chavez Day to raise awareness. United Farm Workers, sometimes in collaboration with Waters Kraus & Paul, actively works to protect fruit pickers and farm labor from being exposed to the harmful pesticides which can result in children born with birth defects and childhood cancers.
