Mr. Olivas' practice focuses on the defense of tort, employment and civil rights claims.

Much of Mr. Olivas' practice involves defending employers in the gamut of employment litigation, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, NMHRA and other civil rights matters. Mr. Olivas frequently teaches employment law seminars and serves as the Chair of The State Bar's Employment Specialization Committee. He is a past Chair of the City of Albuquerque's Personnel Board and currently serves on the Bernalillo County Labor Relations Board.

He practices extensively in federal and state courts throughout New Mexico, as well as before administrative tribunals. Mr. Olivas has also handled appeals for clients in the Tenth Circuit, the Federal Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, as well as in the New Mexico Appellate Courts.

Mr. Olivas was honored as a Southwest Super Lawyer for 2014, 2017 and 2018.

Mr. Olivas spent many years performing law school accreditation work for the American Bar Association, and spent three years on the ABA's Accreditation Committee. He is a member of the New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association, having served on its board of editors. Mr. Olivas is currently the Chairman of the State Bar Employment Law Specialization Certification Committee. He is a past president of both the U.N.M. Law School Alumni Association and the Albuquerque Bar Association. Mr. Olivas is a member of the American Law Institute. Mr. Olivas serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at UNM School of Law.
