Biography

Alice E. Snedeker practices in the area of intellectual property law and counseling, with a focus on patent litigation. Ms. Snedeker represents several well-known technology companies in complex patent litigation involving technologies such as fiber optics communications, 802.11 wireless LAN technologies, wireless chipsets, video imaging and conferencing, cable television technology, telecommunications and computer hardware and software applications, and consumer technology accessories. She provides technical and legal analysis, works with experts and witnesses, takes and defends depositions, prepares and argues motions, manages discovery, and prepares pretrial documents. Ms. Snedeker also represents clients in complex commercial litigation, including matters related to trade secrets, defamation, restrictive covenants, products liability, breach of contract, fraud, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

Ms. Snedeker regularly provides pro bono assistance to veterans, immigration, and community-based organizations with a variety of legal services, such as drafting life planning documents and petitions, assistance with landlord-tenant disputes, assistance with petitions for asylum, and challenges to state regulations limiting women’s rights.

Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Snedeker served as law clerk to the Honorable Timothy C. Batten, Sr., of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Ms. Snedeker is a 2009 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, where she was senior managing editor and on the editorial board of the Georgia Law Review, and a graduate, with highest honors, of the Georgia Institute of Technology (B.S., Mechanical Engineering).

Representative Matters: Represented Palo Alto Networks-a leader in network security and a Fortune Future 50 company-in a six patent infringement action concerning identification of applications by Palo Alto Networks' network firewall equipment. Plaintiff Implicit LLC was seeking nearly $100 million in damages, plus treble damages due to alleged willful infringement, but Implicit withdrew four of the patents, and the parties ultimately resolved the litigation, to the client's satisfaction, prior to trial. Implicit LLC v. Palo Alto Networks, Inc. , 6:17-cv-336 (E.D. Tex.) (J. Gilstrap); Represented Cisco Systems in a seven patent infringement action concerning 40G and 100G optical fiber communications equipment. Plaintiff withdrew six of the seven patents from the case after claim construction and other victories. Secured summary judgment on a release defense for the final patent, which the Plaintiff has appealed to the Federal Circuit. Oyster Optics, LLC v. Coriant Am. Inc. , 2:16-cv-01302-JRG (E.D. Tex. Dec. 4, 2018) (Dkt. 864).; Successfully represented consumer technology company in design patent litigation, securing the grant of a summary judgment and dismissal of suit before claim construction.; Representing medical transcription software company in a patent infringement suit filed against a speech software company involving five patents related to speech recognition and transcription technology.; Represented real estate technology company in patent infringement action litigation and Federal Circuit appeal relating to online property searches and obtained summary judgment of invalidity under 101, which decision was affirmed by the Federal Circuit.; Represented consumer technology company in a patent infringement matter relating to a protector for portable electronic device and method for manufacturing the same.; Represented software company in obtaining a Fed. R. Civ. P. 68 Offer of Judgement against IT company and software vendor in a breach of contract filed in federal district court.; Represented medical device and medical products in injunctive litigation filed in Georgia federal court. The issue was nominally based on non-compete and non-disclosure terms triggered by the employment of a high-level scientist.; Obtained a stay of removal for an Eritrean refugee while the 11th Circuit considers his petition for review.; Filed an amicus curiae brief pro bono in the Fifth Circuit on behalf of the several groups and experts in pathology and healthcare administration in support of petitioners in Whole Woman's Health, et al. v. Hellerstedt.; Assisted the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and the Atlanta VA Medical Center in advising and drafting of wills, powers of attorney, HIPAA releases, and other end of life planning documents for over 40 Atlanta area veterans from the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf War, and other conflicts.
