Whitt Law also has substantial experience in dealing with big business and industry in high stakes tax disputes. We provide advice, counsel and litigation services to school districts and other taxing bodies in communities that host Exelon's Braidwood, Byron, Dresden, LaSalle and Quad Cities nuclear power stations, as well as those hosting natural gas and coal-fired electric generation stations. We also provide advice, counsel and litigation services to school districts and other taxing bodies in property tax disputes with each of the oil refineries in Illinois, as well as a wide variety of other commercial, industrial and special purpose properties.
Whitt Law has become the "go-to" firm for the Illinois Statewide School Management Alliance on property tax and other school funding matters. In the Spring 2006 the Illinois General Assembly undertook substantial revisions to the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law through the adoption of Senate Bill 1682. Throughout all of the negotiations, committee hearings and floor debates, the attorneys at Whitt Law were at the table representing the Illinois Statewide School Management Alliance and school districts throughout the State. Similarly, in the Spring 2007, the Illinois General Assembly considered legislation on the assessment and taxation of wind energy devices being constructed throughout western and central Illinois. Again, Whitt Law is at the table on behalf of the Alliance and its members.
