  • In current economic times, states facing budget shortfalls are “beating the bushes” in an attempt to increase revenues without increasing taxes. The result? States are aggressively pursuing unclaimed property, by expanding the understanding of what constitutes unclaimed property, by intensifying audit efforts, and/or by shortening the applicable holding periods, seeking to increase property escheated to the state.
