Stephen Whelan’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation, with an emphasis on employment, real estate, contract disputes, construction and commercial landlord and tenant law. Mr. Whelan counsels clients on best practices to avoid litigation, and provides general corporate and business representation to clients in a wide array of industries.
Prior to joining BBS&G, Mr. Whelan practiced at a business litigation firm in downtown Washington D.C., where he gained valuable experience in the federal and state courts in the District of Columbia, as well as before a variety of District of Columbia administrative agencies, including the Department of Employment Services, Office of Administrative Hearings and Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
Mr. Whelan received his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law. While at Wake Forest, Mr. Whelan was privileged to clerk for the Honorable Judge Robert J. Conrad at the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. He also participated in a semester long externship at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), in their Office of General Counsel. Mr. Whelan earned a Bachelor of Science from Villanova University, where he majored in Marketing and minored in International Business prior to law school.
Mr. Whelan is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Maryland.
