Taylor has been listed as a Mid-South Super Lawyers Rising Star in business litigation since 2011. Further, he is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. In 2017, Taylor was named to Benchmark Litigation’s Under 40 Hotlist for the United States.
Taylor has also represented individuals, churches, and other non-profits. He has tried a jury trial and a bench trial pro bono, and he has been active with pro bono matters for the Appellate Practice Section of the Mississippi Bar Association and with the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project.
Taylor and his wife, Jessica, have one daughter, Mollie, and one son, John Taylor.
Areas of Litigation Practice
COMMERCIAL LITIGATION: Successfully represented numerous types of businesses and individuals in claims that have included antitrust, fraud, theft of trade secrets, breach of contract, dissolution of corporate entity, professional liability, open account, breach of non-compete agreements, breach of government contracts.
CONSTRUCTION: Successfully tried cases to jury verdict as lead counsel on behalf of construction clients, successfully moved to compel arbitration, and has negotiated favorable settlements for property owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and architects in cases that have ranged from breach of contract to wrongful death.
REAL ESTATE LITIGATION: Successfully tried cases to verdict involving breach of contract and fraud, and have also handled zoning litigation, and the set aside of conveyances.
FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS: Successfully represented local, regional, national, and foreign financial institutions. Such cases have included suits to collect on a guaranty or promissory note, suits to set aside a tax sale of property, breach of loan purchase contracts with other lenders, release of funds to alleged wrongful beneficiary, defending the validity of pooling and selling of loans, fraud claims against the borrower, alleged failure to renew flood insurance, and alleged improper servicing or renewal of loans.
PREMISES LIABILITY: Successfully defended many premises liability suits including claims related to the following: slip and fall, malicious prosecution, false imprisonment, food poisoning, and inadequate security. A number of these premises liability cases were dismissed by dispositive motions.
PRODUCT LIABILITY: Successfully handled cases that have included alleged injuries from farming equipment, pharmaceuticals, asbestos, and formaldehyde.
PERSONAL INJURY/WRONGFUL DEATH: Defense verdict on behalf of defendant involved in an automobile accident, other cases include dram shop liability, assisted living litigation, injuries from a natural gas explosion, injuries from the cave-in of a construction trench, and claims arising under the Mississippi Tort Claims Act.
ENERGY LITIGATION: Successfully resolved cases involving breaches of leasehold interest, alleged injuries resulting from natural gas leaks, breach of contract with distributor, and defended claim that emissions from energy company increased Hurricane Katrina’s intensity.
ESTATE LITIGATION: Successfully handled cases involving undue influence, lack of competency, will contest, accounting / inventory, reimbursement of expenses, and probate of claims.
FIRST AMENDMENT: Successfully defended a number of defamation suits against television stations and newspapers. Has experience in litigating requests for public records. Also has experience in representing churches with regard to the Establishment and Free Exercise clauses.
TAX LITIGATION: Successfully appealed tax assessments from counties and the Mississippi Department of Revenue to Mississippi’s state courts.
INSURANCE COVERAGE / BAD FAITH: Successfully represented both insureds and insurers in coverage claims and actions - including bad faith suits.
INJUNCTIVE RELIEF: Successfully represented clients at hearings on temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions.
COLLECTIONS: Successfully executed on judgments, located assets in numerous states, conducted judgment debtor examinations, and obtained favorable rulings at hearings to show cause.
