Biography

Alicia began practicing law in Birmingham in 1999, and joined Starnes Davis Florie LLP in 2002. She is a partner in the firm.

Practice

Alicia's practice is currently devoted to the defense of long-term care/nursing home facilities in wrongful death and negligence actions. For more than six years she represented physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers in medical malpractice cases, participating in several jury trials. More recently, Alicia defended financial institutions, including banks and mortgage companies, in commercial litigation matters.

Prior to joining Starnes Davis Florie, Alicia defended employers in labor and employment matters, including sexual harassment, discrimination and retaliation claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and lawsuits brought under the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. Alicia also represented financial institutions in adversary proceedings and creditors in collection matters.

Honors And Awards

Alicia is an AV Preeminent rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review RatingsTM and is listed in the 2016 - 2017 editions of Best Lawyers in America for Personal Injury Litigation.

Alicia is a member of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute (DRI). Alicia is also a member of the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association, including the Women Lawyers Section. She has served on the Public Service, Grievance, Medical Liaison and Membership committees of the Birmingham Bar.

While in law school, Alicia served as an editor of the Alabama Law Review and was a member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board.

Community Involvement

Alicia was a member of the Charter Class of the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Leadership UAB and served on the Young Supporters Board of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Alicia has been appointed to the Board for The ARC of Jefferson County and is a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and a supporter of Forgotten Children Ministries, an organization that rescues homeless boys from the streets of Honduras. She is also a member of IronTribe Fitness, a CrossFit affiliate, and a mother of twins.
