Darrell Cartwright is a practicing attorney with extensive experience representing businesses of all sizes and their owners and employees. His practice includes concentrations in corporate law, taxation and estate planning.

Darrell earned a Masters of Law degree (LL.M.) in Taxation from the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude. He graduated from Tulane Law School, where he was the recipient of the Tulane Legislative Scholarship his senior year, and received honors for best oral argument in Moot Court competition. He graduated magna cum laude, from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, where he was a member of the University’s Mortar Board.

Darrell is admitted to practice before all state courts in Alabama, the Northern and Middle District federal courts in Alabama, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Tax Court. He is a member of the Alabama Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He has been named as one of Birmingham’s Top Lawyers by Birmingham Magazine for six consecutive years in the areas of taxation law, probate law, wills and trusts, corporate finance, and real property law. Darrell also has an AV Preeminent Rating™ by LexisNexis® Martindale-Hubbell®.

Darrell has previously been licensed to practice law in three states after successfully passing each state’s Bar Examinations, including Kentucky, Louisiana and Alabama, and has practiced law in New Orleans, Montgomery and Birmingham. He has held an Alabama State Bar license since 1989. Darrell successfully passed the Certified Public Accounting Exam while attending Tulane Law School.

Darrell has been a Professor of Law in Law School for sixteen years, teaching income taxation, estate and gift taxation. He has taught business law at the University level for five years. In addition to practicing law, he has provided expert testimony in his areas of practice in litigation. He has been a Bar Review Instructor for the Alabama State Bar Examination, and has taught seminars to attorneys and certified public accountants for the National Business Institute and Lorman Educational Services since 1988. Seminar topics he has taught include Sales and Use Tax in Alabama, Estate Administration and Probate in Alabama, and other related topics. He has also provided continuing legal education seminars to various groups, including County Bar Associations in Alabama and financial planners.

Darrell was born in Kentucky. He and his family have lived in Birmingham, Alabama since 1990.
