Scott is a trusted counselor to business corporations, advising them on critical industry matters. He represents clients in commercial real estate transactions, loan closings, general business negotiations and transactions, cell tower leasing, and title work. Scott served as general counsel to the Community Bankers Association of Alabama for more than a decade.

Why did you become an attorney?

I was impressed by the attorneys in my hometown of Jasper, Alabama, at a young age. They were leaders in the church and community. I had planned to return to Jasper following the completion of my education and knew I could take the practice of law back home. Moreover, I had a great interest in politics, and law school seemed to be the most common path. I was probably also influenced by some trial lawyers on popular TV shows. Of course, I did not return home, or enter politics, or become a trial lawyer. I discovered real estate law and that Birmingham had a small-town feel for a city of its size.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is the relationships. I have the privilege of serving my clients each day as a counselor. As a transactional lawyer, my clients are typically pleased to be dealing with a lawyer because they are involved in a deal they want to do. Having the opportunity to add value by anticipating issues, answering questions, and helping my clients succeed is very rewarding-and my clients have become some of my closest friends.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to do whatever my four kids are doing; my children’s hobbies are my hobbies. With four children who have different interests, I am able to enjoy a variety of activities: sports (particularly football, basketball, and golf), Scouts, and music. I also enjoy serving the community through the Kiwanis Club of Homewood-Mountain Brook. If I have a spare moment, you may find me reading.

What are you most proud of in your practice?

I am proud (and thankful) that I have been with Sirote for my entire career of 25 years and that the clients who have entrusted their legal needs to me over the years continue to call me. It is such an honor to have relationships with clients who seek my counsel before they make important decisions-business or personal. Knowing that I have played a role in their successes is very satisfying.
