In law school, Lance was an Associate Editor of the Cumberland Law Review. He also served as Associate Justice and then Deputy Justice for the Cumberland Honor Court. Lance was a Scholar of Merit and the recipient of the Merit Scholarship.

Lance is a member of the Alabama Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama. In his spare time, Lance enjoys running, hunting, playing golf and spending time with his wife, Lauren, and daughter, Collins.
