Biography

Maury serves as counsel for trade associations, financial institutions, and business clients, advising them on business and industry concerns. He advises numerous local, regional, and national real estate, finance, and consumer credit clients with respect to federal and state consumer credit protection laws, rules, and regulations. His practice also includes assisting clients in legislative analysis and drafting, financing, and the purchase and sale of businesses and business assets.

Why did you become an attorney?

I wanted to be an attorney ever since I read Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. I wanted to be Atticus Finch. He was a lawyer who understood the power of the law to make a positive difference in our world. I saw that lawyers in Birmingham in the 1950s and 1960s who were carrying the fight against racism and injustice that was so prevalent at that time.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is interacting with my clients, helping them to achieve their goals for their families.

Who has inspired you in your career?

My senior partner and mentor Karl Friedman inspired me. Karl recently passed away after a brilliant career. He embodied the spirit of Atticus Finch, helping his clients to achieve their personal, business, and family goals, while insisting that we are part of the legal profession with a duty to improve the condition of all of our brothers and sisters.

What do you think are the three most important things you do to serve your clients?

The three most important aspects of my practice are providing excellent legal services for my clients, within a time frame that I have promised, and producing the work at a fair price.
