Russell Rutherford is a member of the Special Business Services Practice Group, specializing in commercial and industrial loans, health care and general litigation.

Russell provides counsel to financial institutions, businesses and individuals in various complex disputes and situations, including state and federal litigation, bankruptcy, and circumstances warranting the appointment of a receiver. He also assists health care providers in their efforts to comply with applicable regulations. Russell has represented clients in the following types of cases:

•Loan workout situations involving distressed assets
•Commercial and consumer bankruptcy matters under Chapters 7, 11 and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code
•Commercial disputes involving breach of contract, creditors' rights and/or business torts
•Matters involving the interpretation and application of regulations before state regulatory bodies
•Personal injury and premises liability claims

Russell serves on the St. Vincent's Foundation Junior Advisory Board (as past Chair) and the Executive Committee of the Red Mountain Park Junior Board of Directors. He also serves on the Executive Committee for the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section of the Birmingham Bar Association. He is a member of the Rotaract Club of Birmingham, and he has volunteered with the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program, Project H.E.L.P., Project Homeless Connect and Habitat for Humanity.

Russell received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law in May 2011. He earned his B.A. in English and Economics, summa cum laude, from the University of Mississippi in 2008. In law school, Russell was an editor of the Alabama Law Review and a member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board. His article on human rights was selected by peers for publication in the Alabama Law Review.

When he is not practicing law, Russell enjoys following Ole Miss football and Atlanta Braves baseball, traveling, and spending time with his wife, Laura Leigh.
