Thomas is a litigator in the firm’s Birmingham office, where he primarily handles bankruptcy and creditors’ rights matters. Thomas’ practice involves bankruptcy matters of all kinds and often includes defending creditors in adversary proceedings filed by consumers, representing bankruptcy trustees, and advocating for creditors’ rights in chapters 7, 11, and 13 cases. Thomas also has extensive experience defending mortgage lenders and mortgage servicers as to lawsuits filed in Alabama and federal courts.

Why did you become an attorney?

Growing up, my parents placed a high value on communication skills, whether written or oral. They stressed the importance of clearly and concisely conveying ideas. As a result, I valued those skills and actively developed them as I grew. Being a lawyer allows me to use those skills on a daily basis, and I am glad for the opportunity.

Who has inspired you in your career?

Prior to joining Sirote, I clerked for United States Bankruptcy Judge Margaret A. Mahoney, who is now retired. I knew I was interested in bankruptcy law when I began the clerkship, but Judge Mahoney’s guidance, advice, and perspective motivated me to ardently pursue a career in the field.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I am the proud father of twin girls, June and Georgia. I like to joke that I have two jobs-as a lawyer and as a father-but spending time with my kids and watching them grow has become my most valued pastime.
