Patrick B. Omilian

Patrick B. Omilian: Attorney with Goldberg Segalla LLP

Biography

Patrick Omilian focuses his practice on complex insurance coverage and reinsurance matters. He provides insurance coverage analysis and advocacy on matters involving environmental, reinsurance, complex claims, and bad faith. His experience and successes include defending a variety of claims in state and federal courts relating to industrial solvent contamination in groundwater, Superfund contribution actions, agricultural operations, and asbestos exposure claims. Beyond environmental and insurance matters, Patrick has defended such diverse matters as copyright infringement relating to EMR software licenses, defamation in the context of political speech, and an architect in a design defect case involving catastrophic injuries.

A native of Buffalo, New York, Patrick combines his educational training - a master's degree in environmental science - with real-world experience in an industrial wastewater treatment facility and a fisheries research laboratory in the Adirondacks, as well as legal experience in insurance, regulatory, and litigation regimes, to provide effective advocacy in complex environmental matters. Patrick is SCUBA-certified and an avid fisherman; enjoys hiking, kayaking, and camping; and volunteers with the Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper as a Riverwatch captain and a site captain for biannual shore clean-ups.

Patrick is a frequent author and speaker on insurance-related topics including bad faith and the evolving area of climate change and its impacts on the insurance and reinsurance industries.
