  • On July 30, 2002, President Bush signed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (the Act), the most far-reaching legislation regulating public accounting firms and public companies in decades. The Act will broadly affect the corporate governance and public disclosures of public companies, as well as reform the oversight and conduct of accounting and auditing services. The Act also creates new federal crimes and significantly increases the penalties for existing federal crimes.
