  • The Act took effect on January 1, 2008, but Arizona prosecutors have said that no actions to enforce the provisions of the Act would be taken until March 1, 2008. As reported in prior GT Alerts, the Act imposes severe sanctions on Arizona employers who knowingly or intentionally hire workers who are unauthorized to work under Federal law. These sanctions range from suspension of an employer's business license to revocation of that license -- an effective "death penalty" for a business found in violation of the Act. The Act also mandates that all Arizona employers enroll in and use the Federal E-Verify system.
