  • While most “Covered Entities” (most healthcare providers, payors, and clearing houses) must comply with the HIPAA Privacy Rules as well as the HIPAA Security Rules governing electronic health information, there are many persons and entities that must also comply with most of the HIPAA Security rules if they act as a “Business Associate” to a “Covered Entity”. Most Business Associates are unaware of such compliance requirements and are therefore at serious risk of unintentionally violating the law.
