  • On April 1, 2003, Representatives Pete Stark (D. Ca.) and Jerry Kleczka (D. Wi.) reintroduced the Hospital In-vestment Act of 2003 (the bill origi-nated two years ago as the Hospital In-vestment Act of 2001), which would amend the federal anti-referral law, commonly known as the Stark Act. The bill would significantly limit physicians' ability to refer to any hospital if the physician acquired an ownership or investment interest in that hospital on or after the effective date of the legislation (currently July 12, 2001).
