Executive Summary

Hugh Williamson is Counsel in our Environmental, Municipal, Expropriation & Regulatory Group in our Calgary office. Hugh primarily focuses his practice on administrative, regulatory and environmental matters before various regulatory tribunals, boards and commissions, both federal and provincial. He acts for provincial governments, several large- and medium-sized integrated oil & gas companies, petrochemical companies, and gas and electric utilities in various proceedings. These include gas and power export licence proceedings, facilities applications, land acquisition proceedings, tariff and toll proceedings, inquiries related to gas, oil, electric power and NGL matters, and inquiries respecting the restructuring of electric utilities.

Hugh has appeared before the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, as counsel, in connection with appeals arising from decisions of the Public Utilities Board and National Energy Board, and he appears as counsel at disciplinary hearings. Other areas of practice include commercial and corporate matters for clients in the oil, gas, electricity, natural gas liquids and petrochemical sectors, as well as general corporate, commercial and corporate finance transactions, including debt and equity financing, takeovers and mergers. He is also involved with BLG's Team North .

Hugh was previously Calgary Regional Managing Partner. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1992.
